FORGE DIE MOVING AND HANDLING

Move large dies with ease

Moving large forging dies can be a challenging task due to their weight and size. ROEMHELD offers a range of die handling solutions that can help when moving large forging dies up to 50 tons. Our die handling equipment is designed to safely and efficiently move pre-heated dies, positioning them precisely in the press, reducing the risk of accidents, die damage and minimizing downtime.

Die Changing Consoles

Quick Die Changes to 50 Tons

The drive unit and carrying console are hung in hooks manually on the die-changing side of the press and lock in place; no further machining of the machine table is necessary!

The die is deposited on the consoles using a crane or a die cart. Depending on the customer’s requirements, the die is coupled to the push chain of the changing unit with a customized die adapter. The integral chain drive system allows the user automatic die loading and positioning by depressing a push-button on a separate remote control pendant. Sensors and stops can be integrated into the control system.

Die Carts

Gentle Transport of Heavy Dies

Powered or manual carts that transport dies up to 3600 lbs., and helps the dies to be safely transported efficiently.

  • Time-saving die change
  • Safe material transport
  • Exact positioning
  • Safe and easy die transport
  • Improved ergonomics for the user
  • Highest safety by the automatic docking station

Roller conveyors

Die Lifters

Roll Your Dies Easily Into Place

Roller bars and ball bars with hydraulic or spring lifting of the individual rollers for easy die movement integrated into storage racks, die carts or on the press.

The lifting pistons are below each roller. Each roller is lifted individually. The base body remains in a fixed position. The die positioned on the rollers is not in contact with the tabletop and can be easily positioned.

  • Roller spacing and orientation are flexible
  • Temperature range available up to 482°F

Forging Die Clamping and Positioning

Replace labor-intensive bolt tightening

Die failure is a significant concern that often occurs in the forge shop due to increased competitive pressures.  ROEMHELD die clamping and positioning for forging is designed to suit the adverse conditions of forging while consistently clamping the die in place.  This leads to less die movement extending the life of the die and increasing the accuracy, which produces a higher quality product.

Wedge Clamps

Wedge Clamps for Forging

Wedge Clamps are designed to suit the adverse conditions of forging while minimizing press downtime.

The retracting clamping bolt and its rugged housing help to isolate forging heat and shock loads from the hydraulic circuit. The wedge clamp’s self-locking tapered bolt clamps on a mating 20° beveled surface on the die. Wedge clamps with a vertical clamping bar can be integrated into the lower master die set. The bar further isolates the hydraulics from the heat of the process and can be removed during the tool change.

  • Self-locking clamp bolt isolates heat and shock
  • In-die mounting and optional series valve increase safety
  • Integrated cooling circuit available for high-temperature applications
  • Clamping forces range from 22,000 to 143,000 lbs.
  • Compatible with fire-resistant hydraulic fluids

  • Automation possible

Clamping Nut | 6.2274

High Clamping Force Generated with Small Torque

Following manual positioning of the clamping nut against the clamping edge, the internal gear will be operated by turning the hexagon socket. As a result of the gear transmission, the tightening torque is multiplied. To reliably ensure the required clamping force, we recommend using a torque wrench.

  • Clamping forces from 13,500 lbs to 40,000 lbs
  • Temperature range -22°F to 392°F

Block Cylinders

Move Dies During Production

Use block cylinders with position monitoring to move dies during production.

Block cylinders, single or double-acting, are made of high alloy steel, bronze alloy, and special aluminum alloys. They can be installed in any position and have a max stroke speed of 0.25 m/s. ROEMHELD block cylinders do not leak oil when static. Stroke leakage is at a minimum due to the double piston sealing.

Clamping for Trim Presses

Trim presses do not see the severe environment and tremendous forces seen in the forge press. Because of this, there are more clamping choices, such as hollow piston, sliding, fixed mounted clamping bar, and others.

When the trim press is configured with hydraulic clamps and die lifters to provide a quick die change, there are many advantages including the elimination of manual clamping on hot dies, single minute exchange of dies (SMED); which means more press uptime, and die lifters and die supports to provide a rolling surface for ergonomic die exchange.
